For the very first time, a new solar cell technology has surpassed the old light-trapping capability of present-day solar-harnessing materials. This solar cell technology was developed in the California Institute of Technology by a team led by Professor Harry Atwater. According to Professor Atwater, their material is able to absorb 96 percent of incident sunlight at a single wavelength and 85 percent of total collectible sunlight, higher than the capacity of current materials.
